The Anantara is an all-suite resort offering contemporary Balinese-designed accommodation with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.  Each suite is equipped with a signature jacuzzi terrazzo tub – big enough for two, satellite TV, free WiFi and outdoor loungers.  We like the iPod docking station and the espresso coffee machine!   The Pool Access Suites have direct access to a semi-private pool and sun bathing terrace.  Excellent beach side location close to a great choice of restaurants and the gay nightlife on Dhyana Pura.

We are fans of the Anantara hotels.  We have found them to offer a consistently excellent quality of service and exceptionally warm welcome to gay travellers.

Most seasoned gay travellers understand the W concept.  Achingly cool, iconic and innovative.  It’s more like checking into a Hollywood film set than a beach resort.  The newly opened (2010) W Bali does not stray far from these themes (think illuminated wardrobe door knobs, BOSE sound systems, LED-lit bedside tables and you will get the idea).

The “Talent” (staff) are all graduates of W’s smile school and generally live up to the brand’s reputation of doing everything legally possible to keep their guests happy.  The food is worthy of a special note – particularly the Fire restaurant which serves some pretty fantastic steaks.

We particularly like the ‘Ocean View’ rooms in the main building as they have stunning beach views and are a lot closer to the main pool area than the private villas.

Location-wise, the W is perfectly positioned just a few minutes walk from the area on Batu Belig beach popular with gay sunbather.  The bars and clubs in Seminyak and the Double 66 beach can be reached by taxi in 15 – 30 minutes (depending on traffic).

The Seiryu Villas offer a sense of refined Japanese-style luxury combined with Balinese hospitality. Think Zen minimalism but with rather generous goodies such as LCD TV, jacuzzi, private pool, a gazebo daybed, free WiFi and fully-equipped kitchen. The villas are located in a quieter part of Seminyak close to the beach.  Seiryu has a private beach club for residents.

A major attraction for gay travellers is that the Seiryu Villas resort is just a short walk from Bali Joe and Mixwell bars and Double 66 beach.

Great location

The Amala Hotel offers luxury private retreats in heart of Seminyak.  Each of the Studios and Villas are set in beautiful mature gardens.  The Spa Villas feature a private jacuzzi/plunge pool, steam shower and a complimentary minibar of healthy snacks.  The exceptionally spacious Pool Villas feature a 6-meter private pool, kitchenette and living room.  WiFi is available free of charge.

There is a great choice of restaurants just moments from the hotel.  You can walk to the gay bars and clubs – about 15 minutes.

Well-located for the Bali gay scene, The Oberoi is just 500 meters from the famous KU DE TA restaurant and Seminyak Square Shopping Mall.

Romantic gay couples and gay honeymooners should give Ayana careful consideration.  This graceful resort is set at the top of a limestone cliff on Bali’s southwest facing coast.  It has a wonderful private white sandy beach, exceptional hotel facilities and the amazing clifftop ‘Rock Bar’.

Ayana has four swimming pools.  Our favourite is the stunning “Ocean Beach” pool that is built into the cliff and has panoramic Indian ocean views.  This is the sort of resort that, should you wish, you need not leave during your holiday.  However, if you fancy a night out, then the gay bars in Seminyak are about 45 minutes away by car.

This is a popular resort, so the very best time to visit is outside of the traditional family holiday seasons.  Ayana won the 2010 Conde Nast Traveler Readers Awards for #1 spa in Asia & Indian Subcontinent and 2009 World Travel Awards for Leading Luxury Resort.
