The west coast Seminyak district has a huge number of hotels, restaurants, shops and gay nightlife on Dhyana Pura street. There is a long, sandy beach, although swimming in the sea is not advised. Hotels and resorts have made up for this with fabulous swimming pools.
At the northern end of Seminyak, just beyond the W Hotel, is Batu Belig Beach, which has been adopted by the gay community as its beach of choice.

8.5 Very Good based on 81 Agoda reviews
Why this hotel: Private pool villas. Great location. Popular choice.
The Elysian offers some of the best resort-based private villas in Seminyak. Each of the 14 0m² private villas features a private 8-metre pool, a-state-of-the-art in-house entertainment system with Apple TV, a preloaded iPod and BOSE sound dock.
The beach is just moments from your villa, or you could choose to relax in one of the cabanas by the main pool.
The Elysian offers a choice of excellent restaurants (including 24-hour in-villa dining) or you can try one of the many local restaurants (KU DE TA is just a few minutes’ walk away). The gay bars on Jalan Dhyana Pura are about a 15-minute walk away.
Expect great service and the warmest of welcomes.

Why this hotel: Iconic hotel. Fantastic facilities. Near the gay beach.
Most seasoned gay travellers understand the W concept. Achingly cool, iconic and innovative. It’s more like checking into a Hollywood film set than a beach resort. The W Bali does not stray far from these themes (think illuminated wardrobe door knobs, BOSE sound systems, LED-lit bedside tables).
The “Talent” (staff) are all graduates of W’s smile school and generally live up to the brand’s reputation of doing everything legally possible to keep their guests happy. The food is worthy of a special note – particularly the Fire restaurant which serves some pretty fantastic steaks.
We like the ‘Ocean View’ rooms in the main building as they have stunning beach views and are a lot closer to the main pool area than the private villas.
The W is perfectly positioned, just a few minutes’ walk from the gay-popular Batu Belig Beach. The gay bars and clubs in Seminyak and the Double 66 Beach can be reached by taxi in 15-30 minutes (depending on traffic).

Why this hotel: Superb luxury choice. Beautiful design. Ocean views.
Exquisite beachside luxury resort in traditional Balinese style, set in 15 acres of beautiful tropical gardens on Seminyak Beach. The Oberoi offers private villas with thatched roof, teak wood furnishings, private pool, satellite TV, DVD player, iPod docking station, sunken bathtub and free WiFi.
Oberoi Spa offers a variety of massage treatments in open-air pavilions. The resort also has a gym and an outdoor pool that overlooks the ocean.
Well-located for the gay scene, The Oberoi is just 500 metres from the gay-popular KU DE TA restaurant and Seminyak Square Shopping Mall.
Located to the south of the airport, Jimbaran bay is renowned for its white sandy beach and, unlike the west coast, the area is safe for swimming*. There is an excellent range of luxury hotels, restaurants and a few boutique shops.
Nusa Dua, on the eastern side of the Bukit Peninsula, is about 25 minutes’ drive from the airport. It is home to some of the best beaches in Bali, with safe swimming conditions – always check conditions locally. A taxi to the gay nightlife in Seminyak takes at least 45 minutes and costs around 200,000 IDR (approx. $20).

Why this hotel: Ocean views. Beachfront location. Large facilities.
Great-value luxury resort with a private sandy beach, the Grand Nikko is an excellent choice if you don’t plan to spend every night out to the bars in Seminyak.
We like the Club Rooms that have beautiful views of the Indian Ocean. The hotel has a Club Lounge for breakfast, cocktails, high tea, all-day refreshments, and a private pool. Children under 12 are not permitted in the Club.
This resort has earned its gay-friendly credentials by hosting the 2012 G Tennis Tournament. Twenty km / approx. 45 by taxi ($10+) from the Seminyak nightlife.

8.8 Very Good based on 1426 Agoda reviews
Why this hotel: Award winner. Fantastic hilltop location. Private beach.
This romantic resort is set at the top of a limestone cliff on Bali’s southwest-facing coast. It has a wonderful private white sandy beach, exceptional hotel facilities and the amazing clifftop ‘Rock Bar’.
AYANA has four swimming pools. Our favourite is the stunning “Ocean Beach” pool that is built into the cliff and has panoramic Indian ocean views. If you fancy a night out, then the gay bars in Seminyak are about 45 minutes away by car.
This is a popular resort, so the best time to visit is outside of the traditional family holiday seasons.
AYANA won the 2010 Condé Nast Traveler Readers Awards for #1 spa in Asia & Indian Subcontinent and 2009 World Travel Awards for Leading Luxury Resort.
A remarkable district in the central part of the island, located about 30 km from Seminyak. Ubud is surrounded by rice paddies, forests and rivers and is famous for arts & crafts and peaceful scenery.
