Koh Yao - One Of Thailand's Unspoilt Islands

Koh Yao - One Of Thailand's Unspoilt Islands

Tucked between the more well known island of Phuket and Krabi lies a group of islands called Koh Yao (เกาะยาว),

Sometimes written "Koyao" the islands are located in Phang Nga bay half way between Phuket and Krabi. There are two major islands, Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai.

Koh Yao Noi is a beautiful island and often described as one of the last islands in the region to not be overly developed.  While Koh Yao Yai is significantly larger, it is less populated and has less infrastructure.  Koh Yao Noi is mountainous in the center and has beaches on both sides.  The beach on the east is suitable for swimming and snorkeling, while the west offers a blend of rice flats and mangrove trees.  The island is a sanctuary for at least 4 species of hornbills.

To reach Koh Yao Noi or Yao Yai, you catch a flight to Phuket or Krabi and transfer by boat, long-tail boat or ferry (prices vary).

On arrival at  Manok Pier at Ko Yao Noi, tut tuk-tuks will be waiting to take you to accommodation.  You can also hire a scooter or rent a bicycle.
