Located around 200km south of Bangkok, Hua Hin is a beach resort town that belongs to Prachuap Khiri Khan province. It has an area of 911 km² with only one beach (Hua Hin Beach), though the beach is much less developed than either Pattaya or Phuket.
Considered the oldest beach resort in Thailand, Hua Hin was the summer residence of choice for the Thai Royal family. Today, Hua Hin is still a favourite weekend getaway with Thais from Bangkok and foreign tourists.
In addition to water sports and beach activities, Hua Hin is also great for sightseeing, shopping and eating. The resort is known for its wide variety of food, from cheap local street vendors to fine international restaurants.
While popular beach destinations like Pattaya or Phuket have a vibrant gay nightlife, the gay scene in Hua Hin is almost nonexistent. However, there is a small gay community. Many gay establishments have opened over the last several years although a few gay bars and massage spas have remained.
Hua Hin is about an easy 3-hour drive from Bangkok. Many Bangkok taxi drivers are happy (with prior arrangement) to take you to and collect you from Hua Hin (usually around 2,000 – 2,500 baht each way) or alternatively book a private limo service.
The train station in Hua Hin is right in the city centre, but taking a train from Bangkok can take up 6 hours.
Nonstop VIP buses from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport offer direct transfer service to Hua Hin and vice versa.
There are several options to get around Hua Hin. “Songthaew” (pickup truck) runs the same routes all day, and the price depends on where you are going to. Motorcycle taxis and tuk-tuks are also available, but agree on a price in advance.
Royal Summer Palace (Klai Kangwon Palace) – Built in 1929, this Spanish-style seafront summer palace features beautiful architecture and an extensive garden. The Thai Royal Family still resides here on occasions.

Ploenwan – a theme city under a nostalgic concept offering classic Thai food and snack stalls and shopping, located opposite from Klai Klangwon Palace.
Night Market – popular shopping market where visitors can enjoy local seafood cooked on the spot.

Gay visitors who wish to spend time in Hua Hin with friends or families may opt for larger hotels ore private villas. Solo travelers or couples may choose a smaller hotel or a boutique resort. Depending on what you’re looking for, Hua Hin has all kinds of accommodations to suite most tastes.
