Why this hotel: Historic building. Stylish design. Wonderful facilities.
The Metropole, the more stylish of the two Sofitel’s in Hanoi, has been welcoming ambassadors, writers, heads of state since 1901. The French colonial-styled building is located in the heart of the city center close to the Hoan Kiem Lake and the historic Old Quarters. Expect excellent service and a exceptionally warm welcome.

8.4 Very Good based on 561 Agoda reviews
Why this hotel: Apartment style. Well-appointed rooms. Great location.
Most gay travellers will be familiar with the Somerset concept of building a 4/5 star hotel, but with apartments rather than rooms. You don’t get the glitz and glamour of the Metropole, but you do get a washer & dryer, separate lounge and free WiFi. If you are in Hanoi after visiting other parts of Vietnam or Laos, then the ability to wash and tumble dry your knickers without paying excessive hotel laundry charges could be attractive.
Location-wise, the Somerset is just of the edge of our preferred area, but the Old Quarter is still within walking distance.
