The legendary Propaganda is one of the longest-running and largest dance clubs in Hong Kong.  Whether you love it or hate it, Propaganda continues to be the place to dance into the early hours of the morning after the bars have closed.  The entrance to Propaganda is halfway down a narrow alley called Ezra Lane which is just off Hollywood Road.  Closed Sundays.  Nearest MRT – Central Station.

  1. “The place gets busy quite late, so don't go there before midnight or you'll be bored and sleepy. Drinks were reasonable.”

Feel like a party animal?  This lion’s den of a bar has become a roaring success, attracting the party crowd intent on a great night out.  Relatively small, but stylish black interior, fabulous cocktails and sizzling music make this one of the most popular bars in Hong Kong on Friday and Saturday nights when the crowd overflows onto the street outside.

Like most of the other bars in this area, Zoo is quieter during the week – especially on a Sunday.  Regular special events.  Check Zoo’s Facebook page for details.  MTR Sheung Wan Station – Exit A2

  1. “Stopped off in Hong Kong for a few days and managed to get out on a Saturday night. Zoo was completely full by 10pm with a lot of guys having to stand on the street outside. Really good vibe. Zoo and ...”

Psychic Jack is a sophisticated yet cosy wine & champagne lounge overlooking Wyndham Street.  The entrance is along a blue lit-up corridor to plush red curtains, behind which are steps up to the bar.

A collaboration of designs by Zanghellini & Holt + Light Directions delivers a contemporary, warm & playful mood which blurs the boundaries between the interior & exterior (ok, we admit cutting and pasting that bit from their press release).  The lounge is split between an open area with tables and sofas and private VIP rooms for those exclusive retreats.  Lovely – more bolly darling?

Admission is $80HK on Fridays, Saturdays and eve of public holiday nights after 10pm.  This fee can be avoided by arriving early and taking full advantage of Psychic’s definition of ‘Happy Hour’ – which is more like a happy evening from 6pm – 10pm (Monday to Friday).  We particularly liked the generous measures and free nibbles.  Free WiFi internet access available.

The theme here is all about taking time out to relax and enjoy a drink or two with friends.  A long, narrow, glass-fronted bar with a chic/industrial feel inside.  Tends to be busier earlier in the evening than other bars.  Find the entrance at the back of the building on Man Hing Lane.

A new occasional dance party night for gay community in a rather unusual party venue.  Realm is held at the XXX Gallery in Sheung Wan.  Guests enter via an underground New York-styled “speakeasy-style” space, hidden away from preying eyes.  XXX is normally an artistic space so it does not have a licence to serve alcohol.  It is very much a ‘bring your own’ evening.

Hong Kong resident DJ’s Steve Lush and Stone Dog (Volume) will bash sets of bass-thumping tunes with a suitable hedonistic undertone.  Tickets in advance at Paul Gerrard Hair Salon (Old Pottinger St), Jac5 Underwear in Sheng Wan, Fridae and manstore.com.hk webites.  See Realm’s Facebook page for details of next event.

A very popular, stylish karaoke & dance bar in Kowloon that attracts bears and their friends. We particularly like the comfortable seating, illuminated bar top and cute waiters in Boo Bar’s trademark orange overalls.  Boo Bar features a state-of-the-art karaoke system which is put to very good use by talented customers.  A warm welcome is offered to all.

On the last Saturday of each month karaoke is replaced by a DJ for a dance party night.  Boo Bar is a great place to hang out any night of the week but is particularly busy on Friday and Saturday (standing room only!).  Happy hour between 7pm – 9pm  (Sun- Fri).  MRT – Jordon Exit C1.

New Wally Matt Bar provides a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for both Westerners and Asians to meet and enjoy a drink or two.  Free WiFi.
