Ao Nang

Formally “Ao Phra Nang” (Princess Bay), Ao Nang is the most “Westernized” beach in Krabi and was originally a hotspot for backpackers.  The beach is not quite as scenic as Railay, but there is a good range of accommodation, restaurants and tour agencies, making it a good base for exploring Krabi.

The Rayavadee in Krabi is an astonishingly beautiful resort.  It really is difficult to describe the natural environment that surrounds this resort adequately in words.  You need to see the pictures for yourself.

So we tempted you with Rayavadee and then you checked the price and nearly had a heart attack?  Don’t worry.  Railay Bay Resort is next door to the Rayavadee and much more affordable.  The traditionally styled bungalows are nicely done and the view from the swimming pool is just as spectacular.  Management and staff offer a warm and friendly welcome to gay travellers.

Unlike the Rayavadee which has its own private motor launches, the only way to reach this resort is by longboat from Ao Nang.  This is quite a simple process.  Take a taxi from Krabi Airport to Ao Nang Beach and then ask one of the many longboat men to take you to the resort (journey time is less than 10 minutes).  For the less adventurous, contact the resort in advance to arrange accompanied transfers.

A wide range of accommodations are located in Krabi town and nearby beaches.  While the water is not best for swimming, the area offers a more lad-back environment where visitors can enjoy many interesting activities such as kayaking, fishing and exploring the local village.

The first thing to point out is that The Tubkaak is an ‘away from it all’ resort (albeit with some interesting local exploration options).  The nearest town of any size is around 30 minutes by car and the resort itself is relatively small.  But it is beautiful.  The views over the Ko Hong Archipelago are picture perfect.  Watching the sunset over the distant islands whilst sipping a cocktail is magical.  We can testify that both staff and management offer an exceptionally warm welcome to gay guests.  This is a place to bring a boyfriend and a couple of good books.
