KL has a vibrant, if somewhat discreet bar and club scene. A growing number of mainstream venues have recognised the value of the pink ringgit and host nights that attract the gay crowd.

Gay-owned Frangipani bar/club and restaurant is one of the most sophisticated venues in Kuala Lumpur. Frangipani attracts a gay crowd on Friday nights. The bar’s modern chic interior and cool music vibes attract a full house of guys sipping cocktails, lounging around and dancing until the early hours of the morning.
Don’t ignore the sophisticated basement restaurant which offers some deliciously imaginative food. Reservation recommended.

The Market Place is a popular ground floor restaurant with an upstairs lounge bar & dance club that attracts a gay crowd on Friday and Saturday nights. This is a relatively small venue that is usually packed. Thankfully, there is rooftop terrace if you want to chill out and relax. We found this 2010 mp3 music mix from a Saturday night at Market Place by DJ Exman. The restaurant is also worth a mention – try the seafood.
We have removed the website link to Market Place Lounge Bar as it appears their website has been hacked (as at 20th August 2012 / rechecked 14 January 2013).

The gay-owned Albion serves an inspired mix of traditional and current British food combined with a range of innovative cocktails. Leave room for a dessert as we think Albion is the only restaurant in Asia that serves a proper Knickerbockerglory.
Owners Colin KH Yap and James Grierson chose Albion’s Bukit Bintang location because of the resemblance to London’s Soho; a part of London they have both worked in for over 20 years. In addition to the restaurants ground floor terrace and first floor balcony, the Albion features a secluded lounge that is a great place for a drink with friends. Open for lunch and dinner. Reservations recommended.

More dance club than bar, spread out over two floors. Expect a harder mix of house music upstairs whilst the ground floor DJ spins a more retro disco style. Liquid Club can be a little difficult to find as it is almost hidden at the back of the Central Market.

We are going to make a prediction that you will really like the food, shakes, juices or even the Jaz Fresh beer served at this gay-owned diner. The styling is very 1960′s with artfully designed furniture, retro prints, vintage fabrics and the odd antique here and there. If you want some more predications, then settle down with the resident horoscope and tarot card reader (available 18:00 -24:00 daily).
The bistro is located in a row of old shops and can be easily missed. Keep an eye out for the large potted plant and a few outside tables.
