A Philippines landmark in its own right. Manila Hotel was originally developed as part of a 1898 urban plan for Manila. During World War II, it was home to General Douglas MacArthur.
In more recent years, the hotel has had numerous famous guests including Bob Hope, Marlon Brando, Senator Robert Kennedy, Charlton Heston, John Wayne and Vice President Richard Nixon.
Today, there are many newer and more luxurious hotel choices, but the Manila offers a heritage, style and charm that others cannot match.
The hotel sits on Manila Bay which is just north of Malate district and close enough to the main gay scene.
The popular Hotel H2O is next door and also worth considering.

The rooms are simply furnished but modern, and feature a flat screen TV, air conditioning, en suite bathroom and free WiFi in public areas. Staff are helpful and friendly.
