Cool, stylish gay bar in Itaewon gay district. ALMAZ has a laid-back atmosphere, with light-reflecting disco balls.

ALMAZ is tucked away on a small alley (before you get to 'Homo Hill'). About halfway down the alley, you'll see the white sign. Walk through the door, the bar is on your right.

Almaz

Almaz is a terrific little bar to go to before the evening’s shenanigans really begin on Homo Hill. Every time I visit Seoul I always go to this bar first. Mainly because the bar tender is incredibly friendly, professional and nice. His English is also really good, so no communication issues. Decor is like a jaded Vegas Liberace boudoir from the end of the 1970’s, which just adds to its appeal. Service is impeccable, drinks not that expensive and the interior very cozy. The only minus is the toilet, which is small and could do with a good ol’ scrub. But it’s a lovely bar: chill, relaxed and very, very friendly.

Not so friendly with Westerners

I've been here twice and, while it is a very stylish, slick and cozy bar, the staff haven't been very engaging. My most recent visit - last night - they spent most of their time scrolling through their mobile phones. The bar only seems to attract a Korean clientele who don't seem interested in talking to non-Koreans. Best if you go here with a friend or friends.
