  1. Different sauna experience

“I went to Ding Lin sauna, for the first time. ( I am an overseas Chinese). Didn't quite know what to expect even though I have been to saunas round the world, and this Chinese experience was certainly different to most.

The shoe locker/clothing locker part is similar to Japan and Korea. They have a thing about shoes... haha. One thing to note about the clothes locker here, please make sure you really slam the door shut, a couple of times I found my locker door was ajar (thankfully nothing was lost), cos the lock did not engage when I just pushed the door closed.

Beyond the lockers, there is a large open shower area (all in one row), then a dry sauna (with clear glass looking onto the showers). Off the other side of the shower area, there is a steam room (which is not hot or steamy as the door was often left open)... this is where most action would take place. It is fairly well lit as far as steam room goes. Beside this steam room, there is another room with nothing much in it, but sees intermittent action.

There is really nowhere private. There are locked rooms upstairs, not sure of their purpose. I did not come across any obvious money boys. There was a decent crowd although not very busy even though it was a weekend evening.

I can't remember exactly, but I think I was charged Y70. Normally Y60 for weekend, Y50 weekday, the extra Y10 got me a membership card.

Worthwhile experience! The Chinese men are pretty friendly (guess speaking the language helps as well)“

  2. Worth a visit!!!

“I went to Ding Lin on an early Friday night. It was easy to find and the check-in was straightforward and fast.

The guy spoke not too much English but was very friendly and helpful. You just sign a piece of paper, put your shoes in a locker (you need a 1 RMB coin for that) and you get a chip for your other locker together with slippers, a towel and a shirt/shorts.

The shirt and shorts are only for the relaxing zone in the second floor. Already in the changing room I got a lot of attention. I’m white, 36 with a ‘kind-of’ gym toned body. In saunas in Europe or the States I usually find fun but I’m certainly not the center of attention. That was completely different at Ding Lin.

At this time of the day were probably 40 - 50 guys there, in all age classes. It’s difficult to guess the age from Asians but there were certainly not only old guys there. I was the only white guy, when I left another one came in. It’s the heaven on earth if you are into Asians! I had good fun with a beefy guy with awesome tattoos on his chest and arms; I believe he was from Japan. I will dream from his body for the next three months! This place is worth a visit!! It’s sufficient clean (it’s a bathhouse, what do you expect??), the staff is friendly and the boys/men are beyond description. Better bring your own condoms/lube, I haven’t seen anything there.“

  4. Mainland China sauna

“I dropped by on a recent trip to Shanghai. The saunas in Hong Kong are larger and cleaner, with more selection of guys. Mainland guys are definitely...earthier, ha. Some quite rude, especially in the densely packed 'dark room', shoving is a turn off. But other guys were very sweet. Kudos to the friendly staff guy who helped me when I locked my key in the locker. He was very flirty, which was nice. A couple of the younger guys found me acceptable, to my delight. And friendly middle-aged guys struck up a convo in the shower (I speak Chinese well). So overall, it's run-down, but mainland guys can be down-to-earth in a way that Hong Kong guys usually are not.“

  5. Interesting...

“There are changing rooms, open showers, steam bath, Finnish dry sauna and hot dark room (about 45 degrees Celsius). On the first floor is a rest area and a smoking room. This place is for club members with few foreign visitors. Open 24 h (foreign visitors must be out at midnight).
The average age of visitors is over 40 years. The bath is a little worn out, outdated and for Chinese standards expected. It is not clean enough.“

  6. Best in shanghai

“I have been to the previous Ding Lin sauna and the new sauna is definitely a good visit being a foreigner you get plenty attention and the steam room is a treat with loads of guys playing. The dry sauna is not as busy but good for a quick rest before the next round. The guys at the door are very helpful there is a application charge of 70 RMB for new members and you will need a 1 yuan coin for the shoe locker but was well worth it.“

  8. Seriously never again!

“I'm an Asian Chinese but I felt I was extremely unwelcome at this establishment. I have a resonably "desirable" body. But sadly, the cliente mix here is VERY low and I left the place within 1 hour as no one bothers me as much as I want to be bothered by them. Filthy is the new standard there.“

  9. Back to basics

“Conveniently located and hard to miss... Came here Sunday 11/9/2016 4-6:30pm, based on recommendations that it's busiest on weekends. It certainly was busy with about 30 guys just in the wet area. The dark rooms are where the action happens which also happens to be the sorry excuse of the steam rooms (I spent a good five minutes exploring the upstairs thinking they were there). The amenities are sparse and you are certainly grateful for the sandals they provide. However, what they lack in venue they make up in the uninhibitedness of the guys. There were more and younger guys continuously arriving as I was leaving.“

  10. Chinese standard

“Well I just went there last week on Saturday night. Well as I travel to many sauna around the world (Japan, Thailand and UK) this one is the worst I've been to. However as I understand the environment of cleanses of Chinese people in Shanghai I understand why it look like this. However, I don't think I should accept it because of that reason. Admission fee is 20RMB but u have to pay for membership if you are foreigner and it cost 50RMB. So total will be counted at 70RMB!!! For first visit access. Oh :) about stay late, on Friday and Saturday night you can pay 20RMB more for stay to 2am. And the system of sauna here is a bit different than every place I've been to (no English) and most of things you have to PAY lol!!“

  11. If you are foreigners u are Not allowed to enter after 24:00

“I visted there two days ago about 01:30am
And there was a local guy next to me. He entered sauna and I also tried to pay the entrance fee...but the manager said I cannot enter the sauna because I am a foreigner.. He said if I entered earlier then I should get out before 24:00. Because foreigners are not allowed to sleep overnight. He said there is no exception. I was so frustrated because my hotel was so far from this sauna and that time it was not easy to catch a cap on the street. Travel Gay Asia said it is 24hours open. But it's not true for foreigners..“
