Built in 1897 as a summer palace for the Royal family, Vimanmek is the world’s largest golden teakwood mansion located in the Dusit Palace complex, now open to the public.
The beautiful Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall was commissioned by King Rama V in 1906 and took nine years to complete. It has exquisite paintings that depict the history of the Chakri Dynasty from King Rama I to King Rama VI.
‘Appropriate dress’ is required for entry – no shorts, ripped jeans or T-shirts. Cameras and phones must be left in lockers, and shoes must be removed. There is a fee for the lockers. Admittance is by guided tour which are in Thai or English.
