The Hottest Tapas Eva.....
“Bangkok has slowly been gaining a reputation as a bastion of food innovation. And I don't doubt that for a bit. I have been dining in some of Bangkok’s best-kept secrets for many years now, and I must say it's quite an experience. This so-called food revolution happening in the downtown area has seen many of the country’s best new restaurants sprouting like Wine Connection, G's, Sunrise Taco’s in this area. And for those of you searching for a culinary experience like no other, look no further than Spanish on 4.
Nestled amid the bars and clubs that pepper the city’s infamous Silom Soi 4, Spanish on 4 is the sister concern of Tapas which opened on Sukumvit 11 All they just want to do is have a place where people can gather, eat good food in an informal environment. The Cuisine is Spanish cooked by Chef Xavier Palomar "from Barcelona who cooks honest, traditional Spanish food from the heart — but with a modern twist." Quoted their website.
The restaurant is located in the heart of Silom Soi 4 amongst all the nosiy bars, but once you step inside- lovely music- mostly Cuban Latin tunes are heard. The decor allows the simplistic beauty of the food to really shine, though beauty isn’t the only thing bringing folks to Spanish on 4. The restaurant buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons.
I started with SO4's famous
Albóndigas con Tomate - Meatballs in tomato sauce I certainly could have had a second order, though that is more a reflection on the other worldly taste than the portion size.
For the main course, I decided to go with The
Paella Mixta - Seafood paella with chicken The dish was executed perfectly, I did find it a bit too bland for my liking, but I know a lot of people who would be willing to pay top bhat for a dish like that. The servings were medium and economical -well worth it.
There were a few desserts, but I went with an old favorite of mine called the Creme Brule` and it has a flavor that is simply divine.
Though I would love to be selfish and keep SPO4 all to myself, the work of the Chef and the Charming Managers Grace and Manollo both of whom are personal friends, is too good to stay hidden for long. There’s no doubt a table at SPO4 will quickly become the hottest reservation in town.“
